I don’t need to see your technology-boner*

We live in an astonishing time of unprecedented technological change.

Ohhh I’m getting excited just thinking about all the hot new tech around!

This is gonna be a-maz-ing!

This is the panacea!

It’s so FAST!

It’s so BIG!

It might be true. But it could also be the sound of a technology boner. Maybe it’s QR codes, or HDFS, or blockchain, or something else in your domain. Whatever it is, be careful, because it can cloud your judgement when you make technical decisions.

I’ve been guilty many time of getting extremely, *ahem* excited about a new, novel, bigger, faster technology. But heed this warning my friend, in the moment of excitement, check your self.

Check yourself and check others around you in your organization for clouded judgement. Because if you have one of these three boners, it might take you aware from serving your customers most important product needs, and instead you might be led straight down a treacherous path of over-engineering!
